This is pretty self explanatory. I just don't realize why they have to be. There are billions or trillions of guardsmen supported by tanks, sentinels, aircraft and esp. artillery. They should have enough damn stuff for crusades to make space marine crusades look like jokes in comparison. I realize it isn't easy for PDF to hold a world sometimes but really i feel the guard forces should be nearly unstoppable.
Really the only thing worse than a guard crusade should be a nid or ork crusade and orks aren't as united as guard are. Not to mention civilians could help support the war by building supplies. I know all orks fight but you have to realize there are more humans and though they take longer to age they also live longer than orks and can build and supply people with shit. Really if nothing else against orks it should come down to production and the imperium should vastly out-produce them. I suppose the deal is every time an ork bites the dust it creates spores which creates more orks but really humans should be doing better than they are.
Sure they're the most numerous and largest society in 40k but they're dwindling. I just don't fully see how it should happen even with so many enemies. I mean if enemies hit and run or go under the cover of a nid or ork invasion maybe but every time chaos has a black crusade against the imperium and doesn't do hit and run then they should die badly and they do. Same goes for tau as they hold a certain group of planets. I mean tau hold onto certain planets. I can give leeway to dark eldar because they're hidden and all in one place (though honestly a guard crusade during vect's ascension would've been interesting if it was big enough), same goes for eldar as their ships can literally hit and run and necrons tomb worlds are mostly unknown. However tau do not have that luxury even with hit and run attacks they take worlds and hold them. When the enemy takes to the field everywhere it's hard to hit and run against that. I also don't get how a necron tomb world could survive even if they can revive slowly. The second we know where you are there will be guardsmen bearing down on your ass and if you have to hold the place it's all the better.
It's like that one action done by the black legion. He betrayed the other chaos legions on one planet so his men could get off first. Then guardsmen arrived en masse and eventually overwhelmed everybody until all the chaos marines were dead.
Guardsmen are the perfect holding force as they can be everywhere at once to prevent insurrection. I mean i don't see why they whore space marines so much when there's about a million guardsmen to every one of them. Ok cool your space marines can fight off a planet. Sure it may take a lot of supplies but unlike space marines we can do crusade forces where marines can't. 1 million guardsmen can do a crusade while one space marine can not. Not to mention guard equipment is easily reproduced whereas space marine stuff is more intricate and ornate and hard to reproduce.
On another note space marines should be more like commandos rather than fucking spartans.
Sorry i just had to rant pretty hard.
