As many of you know, the person I play against the most is an infuriatingly competent Tau player who likes his Fire Warrior spam. More often than not, he sees through my moves and plays accordingly and in the occasional instance where I do manage to catch him off guard, whatever trick I use against him usually only works once, rarely twice.
One of the strategies that I think might help is running multiple lists, which is why I have almost a dozen 1000-point lists worked out that may or may not be particularly effective against him, with the ultimate goal of developing a half-dozen refined lists that are equally effective at wiping him out in my hands.
With that in mind, here's one I cooked up today that I'm hopeful for:
HQ: Archon w/ Blaster - 75
Elites: Trueborn - 136
- 3x Trueborn w/ Blasters
- Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons, Night Shield
Troops: Wyches - 150
- Succubus w/ Power Weapon
- Wych w/ Hydra Gauntlets
- 3x Wyches
- Raider w/ Shock Prow, Chain Snares
Troops: Kabalite Warriors - 130
- Warrior w/ Blaster
- 4x Warriors
- Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons, Night Shield
Troops: Kabalite Warriors - 130
- Warrior w/ Blaster
- 4x Warriors
- Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons, Night Shield
Troops: Kabalite Warriors - 130
- Warrior w/ Blaster
- 4x Warriors
- Venom w/ 2x Splinter Cannons, Night Shield
Heavy Support: Ravager w/ Flickerfield - 115
Heavy Support: Ravager w/ Flickerfield - 115
Total: 1001
This is a rather brute force configuration, with exactly none of my usual ninja elements; I don't have a Portal, I don't have Malys, I don't have anything that spams pain tokens, no Reavers and little other than splinter and darklight spam.
The plan is to take advantage of my weapons' 36" range and my night shields, forcing him to move in to engage me. Once he does, I spring my trap and quickly close the remaining distance. Darklights target his armor and battlesuits, while all that lovely splinter fire is directed at his infantry and, if out of targets, his battlesuits. The Archon will ride with the Trueborn, which exist to give the Archon a bodyguard and transport, and also to make priority targets go boom.
