Hey it's me flamingkillamajig (FKM). I've been here for some time but the inactivity of the board has turned me off a bit. I'll be here for a while since i keep getting banned on the IGMB and i'm getting sick of it. Nice to meet you all again.

Meh that and RT and i don't get along at all. On one side you have a super easily pissed off mod and on the other you have somebody that enflames such people like so much hot sauce up the ass. I know i am at fault for quite a lot of it but the guy takes punishment way too far. I even have my own set of individual rules there where i get in trouble for things only i can get in trouble for.

Uploaded with ImageShack.usI wish i was that much of a tactical genius. I feel i'm average or somewhat above average as a player of the game. I wish i got to play more and buy more stuff. Then maybe i'd be at the top of my game. I do beat people with more disposable funds than myself though and i am getting better as i can see. RT is terrible. I am thoroughly convinced he's the spawn of satan....and yes the spawn of satan has a british accent. Delightful.

Oi, faggit, 'elcome to da forum.
Lulz, chances are you will more than likely not get banned from here unless you ask to get banned (as I welcome trolls, flamers, and general -fags) Walrus is the "doin stuff admin" and I am the "get to troll and act like a douche all I want" admin (although it should be switched around seeing that I still have the master account)....

@chopperdacat: Sounds good to me. cheminhaler: Not to mention the paint cost or the work put into it. I'm hoping my 180 USD worth of guys needed for my super death star will be worth the cost. Also got to watch 'space marine' walkthroughs today. It was quite cool. Mildly disappointing you don't get to fight the final boss normally before you have to quicktime event him to death. Still pretty cool how he died though. It was nearly like that scene where gandalf and balrog are fighting each other while falling for forever. In fact it was almost too much like it. It was still cool though.

180 dollars! Wow! All stormvermin?

Well about 100 dollars for stormvermin, probably 58 for the screaming bell which has a grey seer included on it and then 18.25 or so for a finecast queek though he used to be like 15 dollars.

Do you find Queek a bit expensive points-wise? As in using a home-brew Skaven warlord instead..?

I'd use a homebrew skaven warlord instead but you can't get queek's special stormvermin upgrade unless you get queek. If i didn't have to get queek to get the upgrade then i wouldn't get him. However he is a pretty cool model and his stats are alright. I'd prefer to have a fellblade skaven warlord on bonebreaker any day though.

The way they make you buy SCs to get good game stats is a bit sick, sometimes...

Oh trust me i would rather have a warlord on bonebreaker as i have 4 wounds combined (1/3 of the time after a player turn you lose a wound depending on dice rolls so 1's and 2's) and every time it hits it's worse than a cannonball because it's str 10, magical, does d6 wounds and all successful ward saves have to be re-rolled. It's the only skaven weapon world its salt but it's totally worth it. I used to try stupid lists with all sorts of wargear but after a while i found either you fight somebody that hits hard and goes through armor or just spams armor so what's the damn point in specializing with armor. Besides the fellblade is possibly the strongest melee weapon in the game or very close to it and it should be as it hurts it's user. Anyway i'd get a warlord on bonebreaker as well but then i'd have to do a 4k game with that many points in lords choices. At least at 12 pts for a fully upgraded stormvermin with queek's special upgrade they take up a lot of points for core. I never thought i'd ever invest so much into core and be so happy about it but here i am. I'm a bit worried about shooting and magic though. I think i could take dwarfs ok but they might prevent my magic, empire would probably mortar them to death even with the storm banner, warriors of chaos might be tricky considering they could boost warriors and that's about it. I'm mostly worried about magic boosting melee armies or shooting and magic decimating this death star. Somehow i'm not worried at all by elves though. I'd like to cut them down a bit .

If people twig on how many points are in the regiment, they'll hit it very hard with cannon/ magic/ missile fire...
Elves.. I used to hate fighting wood elves, those cheese mongers! Which variety of elf do you fear the most nowadays?

The unit costs 720 pts with just the upgraded stormvermin and probably over 120 for warpfire thrower, banner and etc. So yeah a little over 850 pts dumped on core for that unit and weapons team. Of course they're Ld 10 since queek is general and even if they get flanked they're Ld 8 with him. Then i may have a BSB nearby and i can always death frenzy them. I'll try keeping my flanks protected though but something tells me they'll be on one of the flanks anyway. I'd prefer my BSB and screaming bell to be somewhere in the center even if behind some guys. Also 85 clanrats aren't easy to put stuff in front of. I also may want to keep the clanrats in front to hit an enemy unit first or almost first as it's unbreakable and can do a lot of damage. Normally i don't do that but i think the stormvermin would take a bit of time to break and even if they do and queek's around they have a Ld 8 test to make even if they don't have a BSB nearby and i think musicians add +1 to that.
I've only fought high elves. I think they're on the bottom of my list now but it's hard to say. Wood elves i hear can run circles around you and i'm worried about their shooting even with the storm banner. I think the doomwheel and hellpit can take them though as random movement can point in any direction and then it just goes forward. Dark elves will probably be the army i fear most as i hear witch elf masses are really nasty. Doesn't help the person that played dark elves at my GW before it closed down was as bad ass as the empire/daemons power gamer. I really have my work cut out for me.
I don't really fear ogres though even with their new army book. I want to read it so i can get updated on the new tactics but they seem overall more formidable now even though they're probably not as strong. Just have to remember to charge them (to prevent impact hits), use warpfire throwers (str 5, causes panic and does d3 wounds) and prevent some of their magic from going off and i should be fine. I can dispell their 'remains in play' spells in my own phase if i have to. Might try also using cracks call on ogres if i can get it off (initiative test or die for everything in a line). Otherwise death frenzy and poisoned attacks would probably be the way to go. Maybe use a brass orb if i can help it though i never take them against anybody but my roommate (initiative test or die, stone thrower, 8 in. thrown weapon, small template).
So basically if it's elves i'm going for random movement units or skirmishers like gutter runners possibly, shooting and magic. I hear many wood elf armies do shooty death so the storm banner should be enough to stop them for at least a little while.

I imagine wood elves are usually longbow heavy, plus their bows even have longer range. Although now they have dryads as well and I'd hazard decent magic.

I only worry about wood elves shooting and ability to move around all my units. The game would probably come down to my few shooting, magic and esp. random movement units. Luckily i think they could handle the task but you never know. I'm not really afraid of wood elf magic compared to the other ridiculousness of the other elves. I'd worry about their high initiative and WS but they don't have the re-rolls to hit of high elves or dark elves (hatred). Plus if they go gunline (bowline?) then i'd need to count on my numbers and storm banner. I should destroy them if i get into combat with them. I'm not afraid of combat. I'm afraid of being shot at and being evaded and slowly whittled down by that.

Dude i can't even build up my skaven army to maximum potential. I don't get army book to armies i don't have. Although i did get the old daemonhunters codex way back when i thought i'd start them only to find out their codex was shit by the current standards of the time. I'll check the army books next time i go up to GW but seeing as i don't really have any funds it could be a while esp. with school taking up all the money i have each week just going to and from there on a saturday. Hell i don't even have enough to go by cab there each week. My half sister is stupid not to realize this even after i told her.
Anyway i'd be afraid of wardancers but i don't know their stats. Unless they are really ridiculous i'm not afraid as they are skirmishers and always have zero ranks. No matter where they hit they will never disrupt ranks and i will often be steadfast against them. If they want to hide in forests i'll just burn them with warpfire throwers. Besides at leadership 10 my units will do a good job against most of them esp. as they are big units, 2 weapons teams and a monster. I have plenty of magic, random movement and big killy units that can take a beating to handle them. Also if you have 2 unbreakable units and one bad ass unit to handle them they won't be going anywhere or routing anything. Best of all no hit and run for them to get around with. If any of their units have great weapons then they'll just attack that much slower. They have high initiative or high strength but usually not both except with maybe treemen. I'm only really afraid of the running around and shooting me in my back aspects of wood elves. I can handle anything else.

Wardancers basically hit like Wyches, except that they get to choose their "drugs." However, they're honestly better used against more elite units anyway. What you want to worry about close combat wise are Dryads, Eternal Guard and Treemen.

Post by flamingkillamajig on Oct 12, 2011 22:17:33 GMT -5
Treemen might be a problem as i don't have as much monster killing stuff in my army and if i remember correctly they were like toughness 8 with multiple wounds a a really good armor save. I suppose i could go for poisoned attacks or cracks call. Initiative tests can hurt them pretty bad from what i've seen. There's still a chance it wouldn't work so back-up is always a good thing to have. Dryads and eternal guard i will look into. Once again i've seen gunline wood elves on youtube. The players were only average but it doesn't take away the fact they can cut a swathe with all that bow fire and re-direct you to going somewhere else. Then they have some fast cavalry as well. I'm more worried they'll run right past me and then shoot me in the back or something.
The wyches you seem to be talking about are the dark eldar but they have them with dark elves too. I'm kind of worried about wych armies for dark elves. I hear they can be pretty OP. One guy had a wych list that mopped up all the other players in normal games. Sometimes all it takes is a cheesy ass list i guess.

Have you ever had problems with missile heavy armies, like empire - with loads of cannon, mortars and crossbowmen, or some combo like that?

Gunline armies kind of suck. I actually hate cannons, mortars and stone thrower type units. Stone throwers because they kill monsters and hordes, cannons for my large units and mortars because dear god i hate their horde killing power. Most of everything else anybody has is crap. Bolt throwers suck for the most part in my opinion. Even my hellpit has a good chance of surviving a few of those esp. if the storm banner is active. I love how negative shooting modifiers stack up to fuck over shooting armies. The only time gunmen have ever done shit to me is when my plague monks kept getting stuck when i only had about 20 and they just got shot at till they couldn't move the furnace any more. Usually shooting is pathetic at least if it isn't a war machine that hits instantly or is poisoned. Poisoned shooting weapons are decent but at the usual strength of 3 poisoned weapons are average. Stuff like warpfire throwers and big war machines on the other hand are battle changing somewhat. Btw if you don't take salamanders cheminhaler i'd recommend you do. They can move and fire and are really good from what i've seen and heard. Probably not as good as warpfire throwers but they can move and fire, there are more of them and misfires aren't as deadly against the player. I love warpfire throwers against trolls btw. Really they're good against infantry and monstrous infantry and even perhaps warriors of chaos. I'd like to see them in action. Hopefully elves don't have some stupid dragon cloak unit use a bullshit rule against my flaming attacks though. Toasting elves is fun. It's almost as fun as plaguing half of a huge unit to death.

That's a shame; I sort of liked the idea of a gunline empire or dwarf army. With dwarves I used to have 2 cannon and an organ gun and for the empire 2 great cannon, a mortar (small metal one) and a metal helblaster volley gun. I'll bet you hate Helblasters..
|
|
|
Post by flamingkillamajig on Oct 15, 2011 16:56:24 GMT -5
I haven't seen helblasters in use yet because i deal with the guy that uses 3 mortars, 1 cannon and 2 steam tanks with 3-4 engineers with pidgeon bombs. Surprisingly the pidgeon bombs are some of the worst things to face. That and the pidgeon bombs don't tend to hurt him too badly when they mess up. I think they're multiple uses as well. I seriously want to check them out as they seem seriously OP. BS messes with helblasters so they should be too bad. Besides if i remember correctly large war machines can't stand and shoot and the helblaster is very prone to misfires. Not sure if it will explode after multiple shots but at least it won't shoot as much. Something tells me i'll hate helblasters but the storm banner will have to take care of them and possibly skirmishers. The screaming bell itself may handle war machines. There's a result on the bell that damages all toughness 7 and higher units on the field with d3 wounds. It can flat out kill some of them and hurt a lot of others. Something tells me a helblaster would really mess up warriors of chaos honestly. I think it's strength 5 and armor piercing but i'm not sure. It actually might hurt monsters somewhat. I think my hellpit would be ok but i'd fear for my doomwheel for some reason. Plenty of lists could hurt me but i think empire is the most likely to hurt my super skaven list when i get the units. There's just way too many overly powerful things in the empire army not to destroy skaven. In fact i'm surprised high elves could handle them considering they lose against gunline pretty hard and don't have the numbers to make up for it while being very weak and poorly armored.
Something tells me i could take your empire army. However these days you're able to take most artillery in threes as one rare or special choice and then seperate them if i remember correctly. They're also heavily under-pointed. In short empire are OP and probably the highest top tier army.

They are the strongest nation. It'll be interesting if they make an Araby range. There is an Arabian ship in the Dreadfleet set - the flaming scimitar, which is a wizardly flaming ship.

I always thought Araby were bad guys. They have way too many unrepresented factions in fantasy. There's like a faction for almost every real world nation in the 1700's time period. So basically you have people in the middle east, ind (basically india), the group that are basically chinese and other orientals, the kislevites (basically russians) and various other nations.
The empire are the strongest nation of humans or at least in the old world. Something tells me the side representing china would be a powerful faction as well. The empire isn't as strong as you think. Chaos is really powerful and the skaven killed most of the empire's citizens before. Considering all the skaven have done: killed nagash once, almost killed the lizardmen with just one specialized greater clan, almost destroyed the empire and killed their emperor (therefore causing the empire to fall into chaos for a while) and have fought orcs and goblins and dwarfs and given dwarfs terrible defeats and losses (city of pillars). I mean sure it took a long time possibly 2 centuries to take over the city of pillars but it was so totally worth it. Hell next time we get a new skaven army book they should give gromril suits to clan mors elite stormvermin. It even says their stormvermin are often clad in gromril and let's face it a +4 save would be really nice. We could also possibly use skaven cavalry (giant rat riders) but rat bat bombs and other awesome tech would be nice.

When I was young there used to be metal models for Nippon. I remember a rocket firing team, a bit like those skaven 2 man teams. Ninjas. I had a few ninjas, chopped them up for conversions. Wish I could go back in time and stop myself doing that. Those models would have been worth a bit. Still I'm sure I have a samurai head on a guardsman, somewhere, which will look unique.
